Qualifying wages that exceed the credit amount for the Employee Retention Credit (ERC) are regarded as non-refundable. This means that the surplus might be returned to the business if the credit exceeds the amount of social security contributions. Refunds for exceeding credit limitations, however, are not recoverable. Calculating and claiming the ERC accurately is essential to determine the refundable and nonrefundable portions of the amount.
