As you know that the human brain is by far a complex organ in the human central nervous system. If you maintain the health of your brain, it will deliver the best goods that you envision when you most need them. Therefore, to nurture the most powerful computer you will ever own (your brain), here are certain things you need to do over the course of your life to maintain its agility.

Proper Nutrition: Nutrition is very important. You need to eat a well balance diet that is good for the brain and the body. While the brain is about two percent of the system, it consumes over twenty percent of the oxygen and nutrients that you get every day. It is one of the many reasons that you must stay away from food that will cause harm to the system. A healthy brain is a healthy heart; it is crucial to steer away from food that is detrimental to your heart’s health. It is recommended that you eat lean protein, whole grains, fruits, nuts like hazelnut, almond, and walnuts, vegetables. The take away is to stay clear from all processed food.

Physical Activity: Exercise is an important element of maintaining a healthy brain. Exercise increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain and the rest of your body. An increase in physical activity the sharper the brain will be. Any form of aerobic exercise like walking will do the trick (think about it; walking is cheap). Get your heart rate elevated for about twenty to thirty minutes that will foster the birth of new neurons and neuronal synapses. In addition, exercise enhances the capacity for memory, attention span, cognitive efficiency, growth and change (brain plasticity).

Brain Stimulation: Use it or lose it. It is not by mere accident that you have such in your lexicon. It is imperative to give your brain a task. The brain loves challenges; it will rise to the occasion and meet the demands. The brain will not grow without challenges, reasons to learn new skills. Pick a book to read regardless its category, write or whatever meets a fresh challenge as the brain needs it to stay stimulated.

Mitigate Stress: Stress disturbs your mental ability and physical well being. Stress is really anything that poses a threat to your well-being physically or mentally. Some suggests that some level of stress gets you going and there are some benefits associated with it. It is worth noting that when the stress level undermines your mental and physical health, it is bad. While stress is an omnipresent of your life, it is important to reduce stress as much as you can. When you are stressed, some of the followings happen.

  • Your blood pressure rises
  • Your breathing becomes faster
  • Your digestive process slows down
  • Your immune goes down
  • Your heart rate rises
  • Your muscles become very tense
  • You're sleep deprived

Meditation and exercise are great ways to mitigate your stress. Reach out to others.  Your social network is one of your best tools at your disposal to reduce stress. Talk to people you can trust. You can get a new perspective on things while you keep your connection strong.

Resting: The best form of resting is getting plenty of sleep.  Sleep deprivation is common in contemporary society; it is considered to be a frequent cause of behavioral disorders, mood, alertness, and cognitive performance.  Therefore, it is imperative that you manage to have enough sleep. According to scientific research, sleep supports the retention of memories of facts and events. Sleep is essential to brain health and rejuvenation.  Sleep strengthens immunological memories.  A good night's sleep is critical to maintain brain health.  Do whatever it takes to get a recommended eight hour of sleep at night.

Treat your brain with respect as it will do you good. Your brain health matters in the long and short term. Keep your brain stimulated, well nourished, well oxygenated, limited stress. Above all, remember that your brain is your super computer. You alone are responsible for its maintenance and programming.
